Machine In Garden

Final Exhibition

First of all, I’m doing this exhibition because I have a lot of stories that I faced in my home country. I was born in a village in Konya/ Turkey. I spent my 8 years in Konya and I had a lot of stories. This picture is village Earth view. It is small but very good but not friendly village. I saw some another machine in the garden but the problem is owners didn't give me the permission to take a photo.  As much as I would have liked to take pictures of every garden, I faced a lot of problems. Likewise, one of the owners showed his gun and said. "If you are not going to leave I will shot you. I counted more than fifty or more gardens that had a machine in their garden and not using it.

Our neighbors and us we are not throwing anything to garbage because we are thinking that if we are paying money to any devices we have to use them as much as we can and it also means that if we keep cleaning our machine or other product we can sell in the future or use it as a decoration. In 1980 this tractor was my grandfather’s everything because he gave his all money to this tractor to use it when harvesting. Because if they don't have any equipment to use harvest the field they need to do it with their hands.

This photo represents the sample of sowing the seeds to field with my uncle. They had very had time to do this because my grandfather has 6000-acre area to sow seeds. To sow these seeds they were spending 24 hours to do it.They were planting less and earning money before. They didn’t need a big tractor but right now they need to use a big tractor to make plant and harvest the seeds. It helps us to do our works faster and more efficient because before a lot of people were living in farms but right now they were moved to big cities as Leo Marx said on his write “At one time some 90% of Americans lived on farms, today the fraction is roughly 2.8%.” (Marx, 19). When they are leaving their homeland they don’t take away anything from their homeland and leave as it is. Technology has also a big impact on the tractors. “Technological, economic, cultural, informational, has accelerated.” (Marx, 20).

By the time passes the tractor got old and it started to make some mechanical problems these were causes too much money that is why he started to think that he should sell this but he changed his mind after my father told him that you should not sell this because it has history and we can not sell this. That is why we put the tractor to the garden. This photo shows the first place of the tractor.

I would like to tell a story about this tractor. In 2002 when I was 6 years old I was running at in front of the house. My mother was making a bread at open oven when she was doing the bread I climbed her back and tried to look at the how they were doing the bread. However, I fell down from her back. My neck burned little bit my father tried to took me the hospital but his car didn’t work. ( as you can in the photo) That is why he used the tractor to took me to the hospital. After this, we put the tractor next to the house because if something happens we can easily use the tractor and go where we need.

After time passes we can see a lot of changes in nature and mechanics. Machines are getting bigger and functional. However, as machines are getting bigger old machines lost their interest and putting away. If we want to change the world little bit we should also obey the nature’s rules. We need to use the machines in a useful way we can use it as decoration or we can give them to poor people to use it to earn money. We have to help as many people as we can.

Sometimes when the grandchildren come to the ranch they learn about the car and the tractor using in this old tractor, so sometimes we move the tractor from the place where it used to be.   In our family, every child who are 13 years old has to know how to drive cars and tractors that is why we start to drive a tractor from a young age. Everyone knows that it is illegal, but nobody tells anything because the children in the village have started using the tractor and car very young age after they learned how to drive they were starting to harvest the fields. For example, in 2009, when I was 13, my brother was 11 years old and he did not know how to drive car and tractor. So, my grandfather took my brother and taught me to drive it with the old tractor, and then my grandfather gave a farm and his old tractor to my brother. Tractor is still standing in its place, but my brother uses it when he goes to the village.

Another reason for choosing this subject is that some people are thinking that some goods or mechanics are mechanics are worthless and that is why they are throwing them to garbage. For example, some people in the village are throwing away old mechanical tools because they do not work, but instead of selling them or throwing them away, they can evaluate them and put them in their gardens. At the same time, it becomes a beautiful decorative object. When the grandchildren are coming to the village, they can play and spend time with them. As a matter of fact, many children do not know anything about the village life and the activities in the countryside. My father says that if a person wants to be successful, he/she should first look at the people who are living in the countryside because if a person living in a comfortable, happy and wealth that country is a strong country. Last week when I was watching TV I saw a program that is talking about the old mechanic tools and how they are fixing them.

To conclude everything when technology developing very fast people are changing their technological devices and tools. They need to keep pace with technology. That is why they are buying new and better products and throwing away. They should not throw them away they need to fix them as much as they can or they can use it as a decoration. Likewise, my grandfather fixes the tractor and put it his garden to changing the decoration of garden. Later he changed his mind and he gave his tractor to my brother. However, my brother said, “It should stay where it stays and when I come to the village I will use it and put it its place.” That makes everyone happy because the tractor will stay its place as decoration and we can also use it when to sow and harvest the fields. Everyday people who are living farm migrate to cities and giving their fields to people who are still living in the village. They are leaving everything behind them. As time goes on, the remnants of the garden become the decoration of the garden.

As you can see from the back these are also a decoration for the garden. These 5 of them are also my grandfather's mechanic products that he is no longer using it and staying there as a decoration.
